Lifestyle Equals Sign We see you

Today marks the 11th anniversary of the Apology to Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

Each year, our Diversity Manager, Dean Duncan, assists and supports our offices to hold a morning tea to commemorate the government’s recognition of the pain and suffering inflicted upon the Stolen Generations and their descendants.

Dean, a proud Kamilaroi man, actively creates connections with other community organisations to encourage staff to attend their events and show Lifestyle Solutions’ support.

He’s established invaluable relationships in the community with organisations such as the Sydney Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, who campaign for justice and land rights for Aboriginal People. He also works with the Southern Aboriginal Corporation in Western Australia, who provide services and support to Aboriginal communities and Link-up in Queensland, who support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who have been separated from their family and culture.

“It’s great to collaborate with these amazing community organisations and our staff really enjoy attending the special commemorative events in their communities to mark their respect on this important day,” said Dean.

As part of Dean’s diversity and inclusion strategy, he travels across the country to Lifestyle Solutions’ offices to advocate and conduct training with staff on promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

“This is a great opportunity for me to engage with staff and create a discussion on the effects of past governments’ legislation and policy, as well as creating a greater understanding of the inter-generational trauma still being experienced by our people.”

“The work our staff do, and their personal commitment go a long way toward easing some of that pain, and showing our support as an organisation helps to work toward ensuring this does not continue,” said Dean.
