Celebrated annually on 3 December for International Day of People with Disability is the Alice Springs Town Council Mayoral Awards. The Mayoral Awards highlight the contributions made by individuals with disability and by individuals for disability communities.

Two people from Lifestyle Solutions, one of our board members and one of the valued people we support, were recognised for making a significant difference to society.

Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artist and Lifestyle Solutions person we support, Adrian Robertson, won the Noteworthy Award for his important contribution to the community. Adrian bridges the gap between disability and mainstream art and has been recognised for several achievements this year, including representing Alice Springs as a finalist in the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards.

Adrian was also a finalist for Alice Springs’ national contemporary art award, the Alice Prize, and held a solo exhibition at Raft Artspace in Alice Springs called Paint Country. Adrian’s growing public profile and increased access to his work highlight his creative influence and positive contribution to the Alice Springs community.

Lifestyle Solutions board member, Joyce Bowden OAM, won the Champion Award for her advocacy for the rights and wellbeing of people with disability. Joyce has advocated for disability services in Alice Springs for 40 years and was a founding member of Bindi Enterprises, Lifestyle Solutions’ Australian Disability Enterprise and Central Australia’s first disability service.

Joyce is a strong voice in the media and community forums who strives for the continued improvement of disability services in Central Australia.
